Nursing with Norma – August 2018

Happy International Cat Day everyone! I am writing to you today whilst basking in the glorious morning sunshine on upstairs window ledge.
I’ve met a few interesting patients since we last spoke. And, we have seen 10 rabbits for de-sexing this month, which is way more than usual! I really enjoy watching them hop around! The Stray bunny- that spent a week with us- was also kind enough to share his food with me…He wasn’t scared of me at all- even when I stuck my paw in his food bow, helping myself to his grass!!
When the staff noticed how much I enjoyed slurping up the fresh grass, they decided to grow me my very own patch!
The extra exciting thing about my cat grass is that you can buy a cool race track that winds around it…. my Grandma (who lives in Orange) sent one for me!!! AND my puzzle feeding tower fits in it too!!! So now I can lounge in my snuggly bed, reach out my leg to play with the track or stick my head out to nibble on my grass. It is such a hard life being a clinic cat sometimes!!
This month I have also had to induct 3 new Nurses into the clinic. They think I’m awesome, (obviously) and I approve of them staying!
As much as I LOVE having new people that fuss over me – it did have major consequences. We needed an extra receptionist working upstairs and this meant that Receptionist Allie needed a separate space for her tasks. So, Dr Hamish decided that the only option was to convert MY BEDROOM!!!!
I spent time later that week sitting in on multiple meetings with Liz, Hamish, Lauren and a full staff training session to come up with a plan for my living situation!! But, instead of helping them come up with any ideas, I spent 2 of those meetings fast asleep on Laurens lap.
When the time came, I watched, in horror, as a conga line of staff moved my multiple beds, toys, scratchers, food, night-light and extensive collection of cardboard boxes to a new room! I get upset when my stuff gets moved around so I had to spend a few hours wandering around yelling at people in the most pathetic tone I could manage!!
In hindsight I needn’t have worried. In fact, I’m still allowed to sleep in my old room at night time. During the day, all my toys, scratchers, cat tree, grass, racing track, puzzle feeder and cardboard are out in a bigger room…. Where I can choose to not play with any of them and instead spend ALL DAY supervising and annoying our Receptionist Roberta while she is on the phone. Hahaha!!
We have an exciting event coming up at the end of this month, RSPCA Cupcake Day! The staff will be baking human and pet friendly treats to raise money for stray animals that need help to find new homes- just like I did! Don’t worry friends, just because I am still on a diet doesn’t mean I can’t test ALL the goodies before we let anyone eat them- someone has to check that they are safe of course!!
Well, that is all for now. I’m due to have my arthritis needle today so I had better go and find a new hiding spot……I wonder which unsuspecting Nurse will be forced to play my favourite game – “Where’s Norma?”- this week??!
Until next time,
Norma x
