Hello again friends!
Happy Springtime!! It’s my favourite time of the year as the sun is glorious to bathe in and my bird friends are back with their babies -to taunt me!!! I like to sit in front or the window and swish my tail at them for hours on end! The lovely groomers have also given me a fresh supply of new collars and Receptionist Allie even gave me a bath!!!
Surprisingly, we have not yet seen a case of snake bite! Last year we had our first case in early September…. But this year we have been lucky so far!! Don’t worry- The staff have not been complacent and instead have had a couple of “dry runs” because they know how critical time is in those emergencies!
As for news around the clinic, we have a locum Vet with us while Dr Amanda-Lee and Dr Hamish are both having a short break. Dr Beth won my heart this week when she immediately responded to my Monday morning screaming with a cuddle and chin scratch!!
You see dear readers I get a little lonely over the weekend. There are only 2 nurses in the clinic for me to harass…. but more importantly, because there are only 2 nurses, I can’t pretend that I haven’t already been fed so I only get ONE breakfast each day!!! So, when Monday comes around, I am both VERY hungry and VERY needy!!! (I am frequently reminded that this can be very annoying ).
So, in order to give me some entertainment the nurses have installed me my very own Snack tank……er…. I mean…. Fish tank!!!!
This is possibly the best thing that has ever happened to me!!!
For the first 2 days I eagerly watched “Passionfruit” (a Borneo Catfish) and “Swim Shady” (the pregnant Platy Fish) with my face pressed up against the glass!!
Lady “Swim Shady” then gave birth to 11 little Platy’s ……and I was SO EXCITED!!!!
Unfortunately, “Swim Shady” then proceeded to eat ALL but 1 of her baby fish!!! This is apparently very common behaviour – but still quite shocking!!! I didn’t realise that goldfish were so greedy!!!
Last week we treated one of the Jerrabomberra Black Swans after he was attacked by a dog!
“Daddy Swan” had an infected, fly blown wound that needed cleaning and stitching! The staff were very excited as it’s not every day that we get to anaesthetise a swan!!
I was a little intimidated by him…. He had a strangely long (and seemingly unstable) neck, and he made this strange hissing sound while the staff were trying to examine him!!
He returned to the clinic today to have his stitches removed and we are happy to report that he has made a full recovery!!
Well, that’s all from me for now, “Swim Shady” requires feeding and I’m determined to learn how the humans manage to open the cat proof lid……
Until next time,
Norma XX
